Tribute to Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin has such a powerful voice, I love her voice, especially when she sings her signature song, "Respect.'' The painting is in a classic setting, she could even be an opera singer. I wanted to keep it real simple and frame her in the curtains. The painting is centered on her voice, everything comes in to her diaphragm. I wanted the color palette to have that nice pink hue. At the end of the 1990s, when magazines had stories about the Top 100 influential singers, she was on all the lists. That's when I painted her, she's iconic. She has had a huge influence on pop culture.
