Gouche and Colored Pencil on Board
This is my third piece based on the great rivalries of the modern tennis era and Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe are a very popular rivalry. They are both American and both players fans loved to hate.
They were unfortunately as well known for their tempers as much as for their tennis prowess. McEnroe is known for being a brat and Connors for having a huge ego, although they did manage to play some great tennis against each other.
I show them not playing, but arguing with the chair judge at a match. Neither one of them is happy and McEnroe has even thrown his racket. They are both pretty young and dressed in white for Wimbledon, with a little color.
I remember Connors wearing a vest a lot when he played, so I put him in that red, white and blue vest. And for McEnroe I did the one where he has the red and blue stripes on his white sleeves and his signature red headband. They were all-American players and rivals.
